Excel and Growth

On another message board I found a chart showing growth comparisons with Excel and without.

http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/library/12275-carbon-planted-aquarium.html

Can you tell me the source of that chart and any history behind the study done?

Re: Excel and Growth

This information was from a lecture that was done at one of the Aquatic Gardeners Association Conventions several years ago. Basically, the study was performed on different species of plants and some tanks were dosed with Excel. The % enhancement was determined based on weight. We'll have to dig around for any additional details.

Re: Excel and Growth

Don't spend your time looking for it. I was just curious who did the tests and the protocols used. The question of testing had come up on another board about scientific testing of the product and that was all I could come up with whilst data mining via Google. :)

What some don't understand is that many of the things we do know have been studied and published for goals higher than a few hobbyist growing pretty plants and animals at home.

Re: Excel and Growth

I see your point :)

I asked about the chart anyway because I actually hadn't ever seen it either! Anyway, it was done back in 2002 by Dr. Greg Morin (current CEO of Seachem and son of the founder of Seachem) and another Technical Support member. All parameters were kept the same other than the twice per week addition of Flourish Excel to half of the tanks. They measured the weight of the plants at the beginning and end of the study and based the % enhancement off of that. There is an article on our website that briefs the lecture he gave sans the charts. Here is the link if you are interested:

Also, both of the last two lectures Dr. Morin has presented will shortly be available on the website for public viewing. The more recent talk was requested by another member a short time ago so we are going to put those up on the site for anyone to be able to take a look at.

Re: Excel and Growth

Thanks for the info and link. That's pretty impressive results for only dosing twice per week.
